Therapeutic Specializations
Art Therapy: The expressive arts (drawing, painting, collage, etc.) can be integrated within the therapeutic process to help both youth and adults expand their awareness by expressing themselves abstractly and through metaphor. Emphasis is on the process, not the outcome of the artwork itself and no artistic experience is needed. For many, this is less intimidating than traditional talk therapy and allows individuals to access parts of themselves that would not be expressed through conversation alone.
Family Therapy: In family therapy, I consider the whole system, meaning all the members of the family and their relationships to each other. I strive to strengthen the family unit while also supporting the growth of individual members. It is a collaborative process. I believe parents are experts on their children, and raising young people can be challenging work. I strive to support parents to be the best parents they can be. My background includes working with nuclear, blended, foster/adoptive families as well as parents learning to co-parent after separation or divorce.
Trauma-Focused Therapy: For some, when trauma has occurred as a child or as an adult, the impact can keep one from leading a full, satisfying life or having fulfilling relationships. I offer multiple avenues for addressing trauma including trauma-focused therapy and mindfulness-based practices. Through a gradual and purposeful process, trauma-focused therapy works to reduce or eliminate symptoms and cultivate feelings of empowerment, safety and strength. In the case of children or teens engaging in trauma-focused therapy, parents/caregivers are included in the process and given practical tools to continue supporting the youth at home.
